I am Mrs. Amanda Beaubien. The art teacher here at Desert Sky. To tell you a little bit about myself, I am a native to Michigan where I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelors in K-12 Art Education in '01. While at school I researched and studied many Art Education philosophies and found that Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE) created the foundation for my already passionate views on how an art room should be run. DBAE incorporates art production, art criticism, aesthetics, and art history into a well rounded art program; a far cry from the art classes many of us had as students. I remember as a student doing more "crafty" art projects and not even understanding why. The lessons consisted of, "This is what you do and how you do it. Let's get to work." In my class I utilize DBAE to teach the elements and principals of design by creating original artwork, having my students analyze and discuss historical artwork appropriately, and teach the history behind artists, styles, medias, etc.

I understand that art classes are not taken seriously by the general populous; however, I assure you that my strategies in my classroom are not only challenging your child's artistic ability, but their cognitive as well. I am teaching your child how to see the world differently, how to see problems differently, how to use critical thinking skills which are beneficial in all facets of life. I'm teaching your child how to problem solve and decode tough situations.
